DO I NEED A FISHING LICENSE? Yes, in NY State you are required to have a fishing license, and unfortunately your Captain cannot purchase this on your behalf by law. If you do not currently hold one, you can purchase a 1-day license online, or in person, at local Town Offices or at Wal-Mart. See "BEFORE YOU BOARD" tab for further details and link to buy license online. IF YOU ARE 16 YEARS OR OLDER, A NYS FISHING LICENSE IF REQUIRED. A 1-DAY FISHING LICENSE FOR NY RESIDENTS IS $5, AND $10 FOR NON-RESIDENTS.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? We'll pick you up where you prefer. The Chautauqua Marina in Mayville (104 W. Lake Road); or at the Central Dock behind The Sports Club, located inside Chautauqua Institution.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN FISH ON A BOAT? 4 customers total, not including the captain.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING? We suggest you bring: sunscreen or protective clothing, hat, sunglasses, beverages and / or food. Captains will provide rods, bait, all safety equipment and a cooler with ice. If you have a specific rod you'd like to bring on board, feel free. Please see the "BEFORE YOU BOARD" tab for more information on obtaining a NYS Fishing License.
HOW DO I BOOK A TRIP? Call us at 571-213-2542. A $50 deposit is due at the time of booking to guarantee your date.
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT? Cash, Check, Venmo and Credit Card. (Credit Cards can be run at the dock, however, a 4% convenience charge added for all payments by credit card).
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY? A $50 deposit is required to book your charter. If the booking is made within 7 days of the charter, the deposit is non-refundable once made. Customers needing to cancel with more than 7 day’s notice can apply 100% of their deposit towards another charter to take place within 30 days of original booked charter. A customer who is a "no show" (more than 20 minutes late) or does not give us at least a 7 day notice, will forfeit their entire deposit. Winds predicted above 25mph or rain chances above 80% on weather.com published within 2 hours of your charter are reasons for delay, re-scheduling, or cancellation.
CAN I KEEP THE FISH I CATCH? .Yes, as long as they meet the legal NYS size requirements. The Captain will filet them at the end of your trip, for your convenience. Ask your Captain about agreements with local restaurants to "Cook Your Catch". Both Capt Jeff and Lou catch and release all muskie so that future generations can enjoy the muskie experience.
I CAUGHT A LUNKER! CAN I GET MY FISH MOUNTED? Yes, We are Gray Taxidermy agents. Gray Taxidermy is the worlds largest marine taxidermy, they produce beautiful mounts/replicas of many species. With a couple of quick measurements and pictures, your trophy can be released back into the lake, and still hang on your wall for a lifetime of enjoyment. Your captain can guide you through the mounting process. It can be done on the boat, in just a few minutes. All that is required is a credit card and signature.
ARE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES PERMITTED ONBOARD? Yes, they are permitted. However, your safety is our priority. The Captain has ultimate say on how much is too much.
SHOULD I TIP? Though tips are not mandatory, they are very much appreciated. A typical tip for a fishing guide is comparable to the service industry; 15-20%. Has your captain tried everything possible to put you on fish and worked really hard in the process? Maybe even when the conditions were less than favorable? Did they explain new fishing techniques and did you learn something new?
DO YOU SELL GIFT CERTIFICATES? Yes we sell gift certificates. Call and the order can be completed over the phone. We can provide a hardcopy, or email an electronic version.
CAN YOU ACCOMMODATE FLY FISHERMAN? Yes, however you must bring your own gear. Call for additional details.
